Europe has a great choice of romantic honeymoon destinations which are beautiful, culturally interesting and very affordable. Whether you want to stroll along the beach, dine al fresco beneath the stars each night, explore cultural cities or indulge in exciting activities together, Europe is the perfect honeymoon destination at any time of year.

France

The beaches along the French Riviera are exceptional and although crowded in the summer, the resorts of Nice, St Tropez and the region of Provence offer a host of things to do in the pleasant summer sunshine. Consider combining a few days in Paris with a stay in the south of France. Paris is perfect for strolling hand-in-hand along the Seine, dining in intimate restaurants in Montmartre and seeing the iconic sights together. It is very easy to get from Paris to the South of France by TGV train in just over five hours and the journey is a great way to see the French countryside.

Spain

Those looking for a city honeymoon destination should definitely consider Barcelona. It has a little of everything – historic architecture, streets made for strolling, beaches nearby and great restaurants and nightlife. Alternatively, head to one of the famous costas to chill out and unwind after the weeks of wedding preparations. Andalusia is particularly delightful with mountain villages and churches which are just as the Moors left them centuries ago. It is also great hill-walking country and a trip to the Alhambra in Granada will be the highlight of any stay.

Italy

Those looking for rolling hillsides covered in vines and romantic cities crammed full of history, art and architecture will be enchanted by Tuscany. Choose a luxury villa outside the city where you can enjoy exploring the countryside on foot or by car, with the occasional days out to cities such as Florence, Siena and Pisa. The locally produced rustic food and chianti wine are simply divine. If the beaches are crowded it is worth paying for a bagni which is a swish beach club with comfortable chairs and umbrellas or enjoy your own private villa pool.

Greece

A couple of days exploring Athens is a great way to start a honeymoon in Greece. Then take a ferry to the island of Santorini, also known as Thera, and relax on the beach overlooking the bluest waters of the Aegean Sea. The whitewashed towns, acres of vineyards and archeological treasures offer something for everyone.

Slovenia

Those looking for a honeymoon destination somewhere a little different should consider up-and-coming Slovenia. It is just a short ferry ride from the east coast of Italy and two hours by bus from Venice, yet is a fraction of the cost of its better-known neighbour. Discover the vineyards and bee farms, lounge on the beaches or party hard in the coastal town of Potoroz.

Wherever you choose for your honeymoon in Europe it does not have to cost a fortune, particularly if you choose a private luxury villa and use the savings to splurge on the occasional treat.
